Jürgen Klopp has set out why he has handed Celtic’s Mika Baur a first Germany call-up, after unveiling 44 players split into two squads for four UEFA Nations League games.

“I consider him really exciting. He’s absolutely up for it,” Klopp said. He was speaking to Sky Germany.

Baur moved from newly promoted Bundesliga side Paderborn to Celtic in the summer. Klopp added: “With this move, he’s taken on a very challenging step.”

He has been named in the second squad for matches against Serbia on the first of October and Greece on the fourth of October.

The 22-year-old midfielder is among several first-time selections under the new national coach.
