Reaction to Bundesliga game at home to Union Berlin

Vincent Kompany: “We’re obviously really happy with this wonderful win. Now the fans can head to Oktoberfest. It’s a nice gift for them. You saw today how much the guys chased after every ball. Obviously Michael [Olise] scored those goals, but he’s done a lot of work on those shots in training. Top players also need more than talent. There’s a lot of hard work behind it.”

Harry Kane: “I think we’d waited for a game like this this season. We’ve won games and played well, but maybe not at the level of last season. So it was nice to show a performance like this before the international break. We didn’t want a slip today before the three-week break. Our performance was at the highest level from start to finish. We can enjoy it now.”

Jamal Musiala: “It takes a lot of work for a win like this. We showed that today and put in a lot of energy until the final minute. That’s what we need over 90 minutes in every game. I feel really good. Every game is a step forward. I know there’s still steps ahead, but it’s a great feeling being on the pitch for 90 minutes again. I haven’t done that for a long time. I’m excited for what’s to come now.”

Reaction from Union Berlin

Mauro Lustrinelli (head coach): “Bayern have incredible quality as a team. They run hard and are a very good team. We gave them very little space in the first half, but they still scored two great long-range goals, plus the penalty. We immediately had the chance to score after half-time but didn’t take it. We then made too many individual mistakes and were simply punished.”

Christopher Trimmel (defender, captain): “I could go into a long analysis now, but Bayern also scored five goals against established teams liked Stuttgart and Bodø/Glimt. And we’re not an established team, to be honest. We’ve got our problems and are still trying to find ourselves a bit. I said before the game that you don’t get much time in the Bundesliga, but you’ve then got no chance in Munich. It’s not the time for foundational questions. We’ve got a long international break ahead now. After that we’ve got a really important home match against Elversberg. We’ll use the time until then well. Obviously you know you can end up losing in Leverkusen and Munich. The Schalke home game hurts, but the manner of things today still wasn’t right.”

Tom Rothe (defender): “That was really tough. We tried to resist and keep things tight. It’s always really hard away at Bayern, but losing by that margin is still frustrating. That’s just Bayern – they don’t stop. They always want to keep going, even running to take throw-ins. That’s just their mentality. We tried, but in the end they were just better.”
