Kompany ahead of the Bundesliga opener: „It feels like the first time“ | OneFootball

After winning the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, FC Bayern is now turning its attention to the Bundesliga. On Friday, the German record champions face a tough challenge right off the bat against VfB Stuttgart. Vincent Kompany is eagerly looking forward to the new season.

After winning the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund, the Munich team wants to make a strong statement right away in the Bundesliga as well. The record champions’ goal is clear: Bayern wants to compete for titles from the very start and kick off the new season on a high note.

For Kompany, the match in Stuttgart also serves as the first major test of the team’s form in the new Bundesliga year. VfB has developed into an ambitious team in recent years and is unlikely to make things easy for Bayern in their season opener. Nevertheless, Kompany is very much looking forward to the new Bundesliga season.

“The feeling is exactly the same as the first time. I always have the belief in my mind that we can be successful in the end. But you’re never sure—and that also gives you energy. You have to start all over again,” Kompany explained.

“In my mind, I have zero titles—I have to prove myself all over again. That gives me a lot of energy. The game against Stuttgart will be tough; it’s a new season, and there are new opportunities. That’s what keeps us focused in our preparations. I’m looking forward to the new season,” added the Bayern coach.

Max Eberl is also looking forward to the new season with great excitement: “The beginning is always special—it gives you that thrill. There’s immense anticipation, but also some tension. Last season, we started with a 6–0 win over Leipzig—that was extraordinary.”

“We have to work our way back to that flow. Even though most of the players are the same. But the mindset has to be that we have to earn it all over again. So that we can build something—something great,” Eberl continued.

„Everything starts from scratch“

Following their Super Cup victory, the next step is now set to come in the Bundesliga. The Munich team wants to show right from the start that they are once again the favorites to win the Bundesliga title.

Looking ahead to potential competition in the title race, Kompany said: „Everything starts from scratch again—at least in my mind. It’s not my job to predict the standings just yet. I hope we’re just as strong as last season and even improve in some areas.“

„We’ve already seen a strong Dortmund; we’ll see tomorrow how Stuttgart stacks up. Dortmund will be very solid, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Stuttgart manages to do the same,“ added the Belgian.
