Bayern Munich begin their Bundesliga title defence against VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Friday at 20:30 CEST, with Vincent Kompany issuing a measured squad update.

According to BuLi News, Jamal Musiala will not be available, with Bayern taking a cautious approach after two recent collapses caused by absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.

Kompany said Musiala is doing well and would join team training, but he will not be in the squad to face Stuttgart. He added the 23-year-old is adjusting to a higher medication dose and any return will be decided with medical experts.

The coach confirmed 18-year-old Lennart Karl is back in the squad following the injury he sustained just before Germany's World Cup campaign. New arrival Ismael Saibari is progressing towards full fitness and a decision on whether he starts will follow training, with his first 90 minutes not far away.

As an alternative, Kompany could again use fellow new signing Nathaniel Brown as a number 10. The natural left-back impressed in the 2-1 DFL-Supercup win over Borussia Dortmund, scoring from an advanced role. He noted the number 10 and full-back roles overlap in his system, so Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro are also options, and he values versatility.
