Genk took a commanding position in their Europa League knock out clash with Croatian giants Dynamo Zagreb. The Belgian side won 3-1 away from home and will be hoping to finish the job off back at home next week. Captain Bryan Heynen grabbed one while full-back Zakaria El Ouahdi scored a brace, but it was the Greek teenage sensation Konstantinos Karetsas who really stole the show. The 18-year-old showed once again why is he on the radar of many top clubs in Europe, including Arsenal.

Karetsas provided the assist for Heynen’s opener and was influential in the sides second. It was his turn and pass that set them on their way, with the impressive El Ouahdi smashing in after some good work from Aaron Bibout. Karetsas’ passing was a joy to watch as he unlocked the Dynamo Zagreb defence on numerous occasions and proved an absolute handful.

Greek football fans will certainly be delighted that Karetsas opted to represent them over Belgium. The teenager looks to be the latest talent to come out of Genk, following in the footsteps of Kevin de Bruyne and more recently Bilal El Khannouss. So far this season, Karetsas has scored three goals in 36 games, the same as last season. However, he has also provided 12 assists, nine more than he managed in 39 games last year.

Genk’s sporting director Dimitri De Conde was speaking this week how he doesn’t think Karetsas will be a Genk player beyond the summer, and with performances like Thursday night, it is easy to see why he believes this.
