Kylian Mbappé will end a 19-year partnership with Nike to front Swiss brand On’s move into football.

Mbappé will not just front campaigns, he will help develop and test new boots and apparel. Financial Times reports On plans to debut its first football boots in 2027, then expand into kits, trainers and lifestyle products. The report said its shares rose 5-6% before Wall Street opened.

The financial terms and length of Mbappé’s deal have not been disclosed. On aims to challenge established rivals from a premium position built on innovation and partnerships beyond traditional sponsorship.

Founded in Zurich in 2010 by former triathlete Olivier Bernhard with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti, On built its business on CloudTec running shoes. Roger Federer became a shareholder in 2019 and co-created The Roger line. It listed in New York in 2021 and has since more than quadrupled revenue.

In 2024 it posted sales of 2.32 billion Swiss francs and profit of 242 million. Federer is not a founder, and estimates put his stake near 2.5%, which On has not confirmed.

On is now applying that model to football. Thierry Henry has worked with the company since 2025 and is its director of football. He will help shape strategy, product development and player relations, and joined talks to persuade Mbappé after his Nike deal ended.

The firm will use its LightSpray process to make ultra-light boots, spraying uppers with a robotic arm to cut components. Barcelona’s Swiss player Sydney Schertenleib will also contribute, developing products for the women’s game.
