Lazio are very close to agreeing a club-to-club deal with Dinamo Zagreb for Sergi Dominguez, valued at around €12m, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The push follows significant defensive turnover. Lazio accepted AC Milan’s €30m offer for Mario Gila, Ivan Provedel has completed a move to Inter Milan, and Alessio Romagnoli has landed in Doha to sign for Al-Sadd.

Gennaro Gattuso needs at least one new centre-back to join Oliver Provstgaard, Patric and Samuel Gigot in his squad.

Dominguez has become the preferred option after an eye-catching debut season in Croatia, where he helped Dinamo win the domestic double.

Sporting director Angelo Fabiani was seen in Split on Thursday morning for direct talks with Dinamo officials. The opening round of meetings was described as productive, with the gap narrowing from an initial €15m asking price and a €10m bid.

If all goes to plan, the 21-year-old could travel to the Italian capital in the coming days to replace Gila. Barcelona-born like Gila, Dominguez came through La Masia and made 41 appearances this season, scoring two goals and supplying four assists.
