Lazio are weighing up a move for free agent Mauro Icardi as they push to meet Gennaro Gattuso's demands in the market, with the deal for Davide Frattesi from Inter almost done.

Sky Sport reports that Lazio have spent the past few hours assessing the option, with the idea of giving Gattuso a penalty-box striker who, if fit, could still be among the best in Italy.

Icardi is officially a free agent after renewal talks with Galatasaray collapsed, his contract expired on 30 June despite late efforts to agree terms. Wage demands, still above the 10 million he earned in Türkiye, stalled the negotiations. He is now seeking a new club.

He has been training alone and, amid tabloid attention over his split with Wanda Nara and issues involving their daughters' passports, questions persist about his fitness after a recent knee problem. Even so, he remains open to returning to Italy, where he made his name with Inter.

Given the level of his previous demands to Galatasaray, Lazio have little room to manoeuvre. On more favourable terms, today's contact could yet lead to a breakthrough. With 20 days left in the window, timing could be decisive.
