Leeds United could receive around £2.64m if former defender Charlie Cresswell swaps Toulouse for Rennes, owing to a sell-on clause.

Footmercato claims Rennes are close to an agreement worth €25m (£21.4m) plus €3m (£2.6m) in add-ons for the 23-year-old. The move has been described as a major summer coup.

Cresswell left Leeds for Toulouse in July 2024 in a £3.8m deal, signing a four-year contract after limited minutes under Daniel Farke.

He has since become a regular, making 60 Ligue 1 appearances across two seasons and scoring six goals, amid interest from the Premier League and Italy.

Leeds inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause on future profit. If the initial £21.4m is paid, Toulouse’s profit would be £17.6m, netting Leeds about £2.64m.

That would lift their total take from Cresswell to roughly £6.45m and provide timely headroom for the summer window. There is still work to do before he becomes a Rennes player.

Rennes are also thought to have offered a lucrative salary and finished sixth last season, securing Europa League football that could await Cresswell if the switch happens. Leeds added a similar clause to Pascal Struijk’s move to Brighton last month, a deal understood to be worth £20m in total.
