Leeds United could bank a windfall if Charlie Cresswell completes a move from Toulouse to Rennes, thanks to a sell-on clause.
Footmercato reports the deal is close at €25m (£21.4m) plus €3m (£2.6m) in add-ons, with Rennes offering a lucrative salary. The Breton club finished sixth in Ligue 1 to secure Europa League football, which could await Cresswell if the move is completed.
Cresswell left Leeds for Toulouse in July 2024 in a £3.8m transfer and signed a four-year contract. The 23-year-old has since played 60 Ligue 1 matches and scored six goals, attracting interest from England and Italy.
Leeds inserted a 15 per cent sell-on of future profit in that agreement. On an initial £21.4m fee, Toulouse’s profit would be £17.6m, putting Leeds’ cut at about £2.64m.
That would lift their total Cresswell income to roughly £6.45m, a timely budget boost this summer. The move still requires completion.
Leeds also added a sell-on to Pascal Struijk’s switch to Brighton last month, in a deal understood to be worth £20m in total, though the clause figure is undisclosed.
