Leeds United are exploring a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi, with Sky Germany claiming personal terms have already been agreed.

Meanwhile, Sebastiaan Bornauw could join Hamburg on a season-long loan with an option to buy, after Daniel Farke suggested the Belgian wants more minutes.

Zurich-born Elvedi came through FC Zurich, debuting in the Swiss Super League in 2014 aged 17 and making 24 appearances before a €4 million switch to Monchengladbach in 2015. He has spent 11 seasons at Borussia Park, including 2022/23 under Farke, and has 364 appearances with 19 goals.

He has captained the side when needed and was named vice-captain last week. Capped 73 times by Switzerland since 2016, he started all six matches at the 2026 World Cup.

A right-footed, six-foot two-inch defender, he can cover two roles in a back three but is most at home in the central slot currently occupied by Jaka Bijol. He averages 8.19 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga, ranking in the top nine per cent among defenders.

Overall he produces 11.62 defensive contributions per 90 minutes, placing him in the top 14 per cent for that metric. Farke has previously described him as an on-pitch leader and said that at his best he is among Europe’s top central defenders. The profile suggests he could replace Bornauw’s duties, potentially at a higher level.
