Marcos Lamacchia awaits court approval to start a competitive process to buy 90% of Vasco’s SAF, as questions over potential family conflicts frame the next step.

According to Globo.com, lawyer Pedro Teixeira explained how Brazilian rules treat step-relatives, an issue given Lamacchia’s father, José, guarantees the deal and is married to Palmeiras president Leila Pereira.

He said the Civil Code recognises relatives by affinity, but the General Sports Law and CBF rules do not explicitly mention them. One view is strict, another looks to the rule’s purpose, and a stepchild is classed as an affinity relative.

Flamengo has asked the regulator to veto the sale, arguing the Financial Sustainability Regulations prohibit any person or entity from control or significant influence over more than one club. Pereira’s mandate runs to December 2027.

Vasco has told ANRESF the transaction is legitimate and does not breach the SSF launched by the CBF this year. There are no formal talks on alternatives to Lamacchia’s proposal.

Teixeira called the issue contentious, involving article 86 of the CBF system and article 62 of the General Sports Law, which restrict relatives from management or significant influence at two clubs in the same division. If ANRESF finds a conflict, article 86 allows a supervised blind trust.

Authorisation rests with Judge Simone Gastesi Chevrand at the Fourth Business Court in Rio. Inside Vasco, there is frustration at delays despite favourable opinions from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the judicial administrator, with only the gatekeeper’s report outstanding.
