Under fire from sections of São Januário, goalkeeper Léo Jardim is in his toughest spell at Vasco. According to Gato Mestre, he leads the 2026 Serie A for decisive errors that directly led to goals, with five.

Recent stumbles pushed him to the top of the chart. In the 3-0 loss to Santos he made two costly mistakes on goals by Willian Arão and Luan Peres. In the 4-1 defeat to Palmeiras he spilled Maurício’s shot and his positioning was questioned for Flaco López.

Head coach Pedro Emanuel publicly backed his captain, citing an almost flawless display against Olimpia. He accepted fault on Maurício’s third goal, but stressed Jardim’s leadership in the dressing room and the need to manage dips.

Behind Jardim in the decisive-error ranking are Rossi and Marcelo Rangel on three. A group sit on two, including Walter, Anderson, Matheus Cunha, Carlos Miguel, Neto, Diógenes and Rafael.

The downturn contrasts with Jardim’s cup pedigree. In 2024 he helped take Vasco to the Copa do Brasil semi-finals with penalty saves against Água Santa, Fortaleza and Athletico-PR. In 2025, on the run to the runners-up finish, he saved six in shootouts versus Operário-PR, Botafogo and Fluminense.

In 2026 he also helped eliminate Fluminense in the last 16 with assured displays. He now has an immediate chance to respond against Vitória at São Januário on Wednesday 26 at 21:30, the quarter-final opener.
