Leicester City’s search for a new manager has entered a fourth week, 22 days after Marti Cifuentes departed, making it the longest wait under King Power. Andy King has taken four matches as caretaker, the most by a City interim since Nigel Worthington in 2007.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the current gap matches the spell between Sven-Goran Eriksson’s sacking and Nigel Pearson’s return that had stood as the longest under the ownership. Across the 11 previous appointments, the average interval was 12 days.

No clear frontrunner has emerged. Ralph Hasenhuttl remains the bookmakers’ favourite, having been out of work since being sacked by Wolfsburg at the end of last season.

Gary Rowett is second favourite, having seemed close to the Blackburn job before Rovers chose Michael O’Neill. His recent remarks on City’s form and the club’s running did not indicate he felt in contention.

Sean Dyche, recently sacked by Nottingham Forest, is third favourite. He is close to director of football Jon Rudkin and has been linked regularly over the past decade, though his perceived style has not typically aligned with City’s preferences.

King is fourth favourite, yet he has been clear from the outset that he does not want the role. Russell Martin follows, with City supporters previously expressing that they do not wish to see the former Southampton manager appointed.
