Leicester City will stage a behind-closed-doors friendly next week, Russell Martin has confirmed, to sharpen up before their Jersey Mike's Trophy visit to Stevenage.

City are not back in League One action until 10 October after FIFA combined the September and October international windows into an extended break, during which national teams play three to four times. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the friendly forms part of an extended training block six weeks into the 2026/27 season.

Martin's side beat Fulham Under-21s 6-1 at the King Power on Tuesday in the competition and will play their second group fixture at Stevenage on 6 October, before hosting Peterborough United.

Eight senior players are on international duty, leaving 18 at Seagrave. The remainder will have a short break this week before returning to training.

After the Fulham win, Martin said players might have a day or two off to decompress and allow staff to assess what has gone well and what must improve. He expects next week to be full-on and views the friendly, arranged against strong opposition, as a key part of preparation.

He added it is time to work, that they are not there yet, and that they must use the break well to be stronger afterwards.
