Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of Facundo Medina from Olympique Marseille, with the 27-year-old Argentinian agreeing a contract until 2031. He is a World Cup participant.
FussballTransfers.com reports that the fee is around €25 million, with €23 million paid up front and a further €2 million in possible bonuses.
An agreement between the clubs was reached recently and Leverkusen have confirmed the deal.
B04 sporting director Simon Rolfes said Medina is a very experienced professional who can be an immediate pillar thanks to his class and strong mentality. He highlighted Medina’s assertive, aggressive tackling and said his qualities add an important element to the squad, adding that the club are delighted to have him.
Medina is likely to feature either at right-back or at centre-half under Carles Martinez.
