Liverpool have signed defender Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona for the 2026/27 season.
The Uruguay international will move to Anfield subject to a successful work permit application and international clearance, bolstering Andoni Iraola’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
Araujo’s loan deal is also believed to include an option for Liverpool to buy him permanently.
Araujo, 27, arrives with more than 200 appearances for Barcelona and three La Liga titles to his name, including the most recent campaign.
“I can’t wait to get started. I’m very, very happy,” Araujo told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I’m excited to be here at this massive club with lots of history. I’m excited to meet my teammates, excited to get started playing, and I’m very motivated and really up for getting going.”
Araujo said the move was the right decision at this stage of his career, with Liverpool’s interest prompting a quick agreement.
“I think it was the ideal move for me at this stage in my career. I think it was a move that was necessary for me to take,” he added.
“As soon as I heard that interest from Liverpool, everything went into action really, really quickly.”
Araujo joined Barcelona in 2018 and has since made 213 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals and winning three La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and three Spanish Super Cups.
