Luan, ex-Corinthians and Grêmio, unlikely to play again

Luan Guilherme is edging towards life after football. At 33 and two seasons without an official game, the ex-Grêmio playmaker is not planning a comeback.

According to Globo.com, he has tired of the player routine and what he sees as excessive scrutiny, and intends to slip away quietly, announcing retirement only later.

His last game came on 27 March 2024, Vitória’s 3-1 win over Treze-PB in the Copa do Nordeste. He played 69 minutes and registered an assist.

Since then he has stepped back, focusing on investments and trips with friends, often to Miami in the United States.

He is dealing with a hip issue that hinders basic movements, plus a chronic ankle injury. A return to peak levels is considered remote.

He is also weary of the backstage churn and constant demands. That has left him questioning whether a restart would be worthwhile.

His stance is to stay as he is unless an irresistible offer arrives. Where he once fielded a flood of approaches, interest is now almost non-existent.

Any talks concern a professional project rather than marketing. He is not minded to drop into a small, ill-equipped club with responsibility centred on him.

Since 2022 he has made 22 appearances, with visible technical and physical decline. The trend points to him not returning to professional football, and no announcement is expected for now.

Attempts to contact Luan brought no reply, while his handlers stay cautious and hopeful of one more try, though that seems increasingly unlikely.
