Luc Holtz is expected to leave FC Metz less than three months after taking charge. According to L'Équipe, president Bernard Serin is lining up Grégory Proment to replace the Luxembourger.

Metz's start has fallen short of the May pledge to bounce straight back to Ligue 1. Hired in July for two seasons to 30 June 2028, Holtz could go this week once an exit deal is reached.

Serin has sounded out several options. Belgian Frédéric Taquin was revisited, but Proment is believed to be preferred, and he is highly rated by club ambassador Robert Pirès.

Proment said in early September that Metz was his dream and confirmed he had applied. Told in June he had not been chosen, he would be the pick this time if all goes to plan. Appointed on 19 August to lead the federal centre in Béni Mellal, Morocco, he must first secure his release.

Holtz, 56, is better known for 15 years in charge of Luxembourg and brought in assistants Mario Mutsch and Yannick Kakoko. Amid internal tensions, Mutsch could depart while Kakoko may remain. A new assistant is possible, with Laurent Agouazi under consideration, though finances will weigh heavily.

Metz lost 1-0 at Red Star on 14 September, then drew 2-2 with Saint-Étienne on 19 September. They are fifth in Ligue 2 with 10 points from seven matches. They return to Frescaty this week before visiting Dijon on Monday 12 October, kick-off 20:45.
