Lucas Canetto Bellote has been removed from Paulistão round five appointments after controversy over Corinthians' 1-1 draw at Santos. According to Meu Timao, the Federação Paulista de Futebol has stood the referee down amid the club's criticism.
He had been assigned as a VAR assistant for Capivariano v Primavera on Sunday at 17:00, but was taken off the list. The federation disapproved of the officiating in the derby, covering the free-kick that led to Gabriel Barbosa's equaliser and the wider management of the match.
Corinthians contacted the federation on Friday to set out their dissatisfaction. President Osmar Stabile spoke with FPF chief Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos regarding the club's anger.
The flashpoint came in stoppage time. Gustavo Henrique dispossessed Lautaro Díaz on the edge of the area, clearing the ball, but Bellote gave a foul and the resulting set piece brought Santos level.
Players and staff protested. Gustavo Henrique later posted a photo of a bruised foot after being stepped on following the tackle, and Dorival Júnior attributed the draw to the officiating.
Over the Clássico Alvinegro, Bellote awarded 29 fouls and showed 12 yellow cards, seven to Santos and five to Corinthians. He also booked managers Juan Pablo Vojvoda and Dorival Júnior, disallowed a goal and awarded Corinthians a penalty, which Yuri Alberto missed.
The result left Corinthians seventh on five points. They face Velo Clube in Rio Claro on Sunday, 25, at 20:30 in round five.
