Raça Rubro-Negra capo Lula da Raça has called for Flamengo supporters to stop the 10-minute mourning chant for the Garotos do Ninho, after it was not heard during the Recopa tie against Lanús and debate flared online.
“An appeal to our stand, let us retire the mourning. Let us keep the grief, let us stop at 10 minutes. It is a special appeal. For those who are Spiritist, Kardecist, it is very bad to keep singing this mourning in the stands. It is a spiritual matter. I know friends who do not like singing this mourning in the stands at 10 minutes of every game,” he told the Terraflamistas podcast.
“It stirs the emotions, because they believe these people can return on another plane. Let us stop singing. Until when? It is a grief that hurts. We have prayed, marched, created the song. Let us sing it if Flamengo are champions, in a tone of joy rather than mourning. I am asking to stop, for love of the terraces.”
Since 2019, supporters have observed a tribute at 10 minutes of the first half to the 10 academy players known as the Garotos do Ninho, who died in a fire at the club’s training centre.
The conversation took place a month ago, but a recent clip of Lula da Raça discussing the chant has gone viral. Against Argentine side Lanús, the lyrics were not sung at 10 minutes, prompting widespread discussion on social media.
