Lula joked with Carlo Ancelotti, inviting him to take the Corinthians job once his Brazil deal ends, during a meeting at the Palácio do Planalto. According to Meu Timao, the remark came in a light-hearted exchange.
The gathering on Monday included Ancelotti, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, CBF president Samir Xaud, vice-president Gustavo Dias Henrique and sports minister André Fufuca.
They discussed the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will be staged in Brazil. Neo Química Arena was confirmed as one of the venues.
The group also talked about Brazil’s involvement at the 2026 World Cup, to be held in Mexico, the United States and Canada from June this year.
Lula is a declared Corinthians supporter with long ties to football in São Paulo state. He lived for many years in São Bernardo do Campo and is serving a third term after governing from 2003 to 2011.
Corinthians, coached by Dorival Júnior, return to action on Wednesday, 28, for their Brasileirão opener. They face Bahia at Vila Belmiro at 20:00.
