Olympique Lyonnais have been ordered to pay a provisional sum of 58,545.90 euros to comic book author Laurent Cascarino after a Lyon court ruling in early August, following a dispute over two club history comics.
He is the father of Delphine Cascarino. Sportune reports that the order was issued in summary proceedings.
In summer 2021 an agreement to produce the comics was reached with Cascarino during negotiations over Delphine’s contract extension.
Lyon had committed to pay 130,000 euros net, before tax, for the two works. It paid roughly 71,000 euros, then unilaterally ended the deal in February 2024, saying the fee was disproportionate to the work delivered.
The comics were never published. The author sought the remaining balance and additional sums for Urssaf social contributions, totalling about 83,000 euros. The court said the contributions issue needed fuller consideration of the contract, and awarded 2,500 euros in legal costs.
