The Community of Madrid has rejected Rayo Vallecano’s request for a precautionary measure to open Vallecas for their LaLiga EA Sports 2026/27 matchday two fixture against Alavés. Barring a late change, the game will be played at Butarque in Leganés.

Rayo had raced to reclaim Vallecas after the region withdrew the stadium concession, submitting reports not filed in June and seeking interim approval to host the match. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the regional government has kept its stance and says the necessary conditions are still not in place.

The decision is tied to deficiencies highlighted by an audit commissioned by the Community of Madrid. That report identified serious safety and hygiene issues. Reopening is contingent on those problems being resolved so there is no risk to supporters or players.

Butarque will again act as Rayo’s temporary home. Leganés had already made their ground available in coordination with the authorities. It means Rayo begin their home campaign away from Vallecas for a second straight season.

The Agrupación de Peñas del Rayo Vallecano has said it will not attend any Rayo home match played away from Vallecas.

The state of the Vallecas pitch is another concern, with heavy machinery used recently and sparse grass areas still being treated despite recent rain not causing obvious damage. Head coach Beñat San José said they want to play at Vallecas, but if it is not authorised they would choose the venue that best enables fans to attend and support. After the Sevilla match, Óscar Valentín said the team’s priority is to play at Vallecas.
