Mamadou Sarr trained with Real Sociedad for the first time on Friday, 55 days after pre-season began, after the club confirmed he has joined on loan from Chelsea for at least one season.

He arrived in Donostia on Thursday and linked up with his new team-mates at Zubieta.

The first signing of Real’s summer ran the customary tunnel of slaps from team-mates on the José Luis Orbegozo pitch. Early in the session he stayed close to Lebarbier, who could translate as he also speaks French.

Sarr posed with Pellegrino Matarazzo for the cameras before getting to work with the group. Wearing bright white boots, the imposing centre-back opened with passing drills largely on his stronger right foot.

Matarazzo must now decide whether the defender is ready to make the squad for Saturday’s 19.00 meeting with Espanyol at Anoeta. The American coach will name his list in the coming hours.

The most notable absence was Karrikaburu, who sat out while his situation is resolved, with Matarazzo not counting on him. The striker from Elizondo is travelling to Burgos to continue his career. Attacker Gorka Carrera trained with the group, as did Ibai Aguirre and Marchal, while Gorrotxategi and Guedes worked as normal during the first 15 minutes open to the media.
