Marseille to face Athletic in first major pre-season test at the Velodrome | OneFootball

Athletic will visit Olympique de Marseille at the Velodrome on the ninth of August at 17:30, their first international friendly of the summer. According to as.com, the French trip adds the marquee opposition their pre-season schedule had been missing.

Marseille, coached by Bruno Génésio, will play in the Europa League this season after finishing fifth in last season’s French top flight. The game will be Athletic’s seventh warm-up.

Athletic opened on Wednesday in Portugalete with a 3-0 win over Derio of Tercera Federación, Navarro scoring twice and Sancet adding the other.

Next up are Leioa at Sarriena on Saturday at 19:30, then Sestao River at Las Llanas on 22 July, Eibar in Zamudio on 25 July, Racing de Santander in Laredo on 29 July, and Burgos at El Plantío on the first of August.

With the opening league fixture against Barcelona postponed, their first competitive match is scheduled for 22 August at San Mamés against Sevilla. Terzic’s side are likely to add at least one more friendly before the German coach’s debut.
