Olympique de Marseille will set a new record for season tickets sold ahead of the new campaign after they were met with an overwhelming demand for places at the Stade Vélodrome. According to La Provence, Marseille were on course to sell as many tickets as last season (48,000) but due to the level of interest, they have opened up 500 extra spots.

The club explained to the French outlet, “We had the opportunity to make more people happy, without having to cut too much into the quota of seats that we wanted to keep free for people who come from far away and cannot travel every weekend.” This additional sale means that Marseille will break the record they set last season.

It can be seen as a sign of the excitement building in the city for a new season under a new manager. The appointment of Roberto De Zerbi has brought a breath of fresh air to a project that had looked stale for much of the last campaign, with Marseille recording their worst league finish since the 2015/16 season. However, under De Zerbi they have a head coach who has set a high demand on his squad, as he hopes to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the league title.
