Real Sociedad begin pre-season on Saturday at Zubieta with 28 players, as Pellegrino Matarazzo works with 16 first-team players and 12 from Sanse. Those who ended the campaign on international duty and World Cup call-ups are not yet available.
According to Diario Vasco, two players will train separately, Álvaro Odriozola and Jon Balda, as they continue recovery work. Odriozola is progressing after a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Balda is still recovering fully from a severe spleen trauma suffered against Huesca last season.
Saturday’s session is behind closed doors, with medical and physical tests. On Sunday the first open training of the summer will be held on pitch Z7, now renamed Estadio Zubieta, starting at 11.00. It is the regular home of the women’s team and Sanse.
Given the expected crowd, vehicle access will be through the upper Zubieta entrance at Z7, with the lower gate reserved for pedestrians.
From Monday, internationals who did not play at the World Cup will begin to rejoin the group. Jon Martín, Sergio Gómez and Beñat Turrientes are expected that day, having been part of Luis de la Fuente’s support group for World Cup preparations.
Jon Mikel Aramburu, Yangel Herrera and Orri Oskarsson are scheduled to link up on Thursday nine July.
