Five members of Real Sociedad’s 2010 promotion side have reunited in the United States, using the World Cup as their excuse. Alberto de la Bella, Dani Estrada, Carlos Martínez, Gorka Elustondo and Markel Bergara are travelling together more than a decade after that night at Anoeta against Celta.

According to Diario Vasco, the group have been posting via De la Bella’s social media, smiling and revelling in the tournament’s atmosphere.

Their route has taken them to Times Square in New York, where they crossed paths with a wave of Ivory Coast supporters. They have also taken time out on the sands of Miami Beach.

The quintet watched France face Sweden in person, a round of 32 tie at the international tournament.

For txuri-urdin fans, seeing these five together rekindles pride and nostalgia. They were part of the team that returned the club to the top flight after years in the second tier.

Time has moved on and each has followed different personal or professional paths since retiring, yet their bond appears intact.
