Matteo Cancellieri could be left out of Lazio’s Serie A squad list if he does not agree a deadline-day move to Genoa.
La Lazio Siamo Noi reports that he might prefer to run his contract down and test free agency next summer. That choice could see the club omit him from the list, with 24 hours of the window remaining.
The 24-year-old has started all three competitive matches so far, though his inclusion has owed more to Gustav Isaksen’s fitness than form. Once the Dane reaches full sharpness, he is expected to be first choice on the right.
Lazio view a sale as timely, with his deal up at the end of the season. Genoa have emerged as the most concrete option, but the winger has been reluctant to go.
It would not be the first time a senior player is frozen out. Toma Basic spent an entire campaign on the margins, while Elseid Hysaj and Luca Pellegrini were also omitted at points under Marco Baroni.
Reports are split on whether Cancellieri will accept Genoa, with some suggesting he is open and others insisting his stance is unchanged. His exit is considered pivotal to Lazio’s market, potentially clearing space for a replacement, with Albert Gudmundsson, Denis Man, Isak Bjerkebo and Mountader Madjed linked.
