Mauro Arambarri has become River Plate’s second signing after Nicolás Otamendi, joining from Getafe for around six million dollars. Eduardo Coudet made the 30-year-old a priority target.

According to SuperDepor.com, River have bought Getafe’s 50 percent of his rights, the player’s 20 percent and the remainder from Boston River, and he will sign a three-year contract. Foreign-quota space is not an issue, with Paulo Díaz, Kevin Castaño, Matías Viña, Matías Galarza Fonda and Kendry Paez set to leave.

Arambarri featured in 37 of 38 LaLiga matches, missing one through suspension, and played the full 90 minutes in 32 games as Getafe finished seventh. He scored six goals and registered two assists.

Coudet views him as indispensable in midfield, comfortable as a holding midfielder or in a double pivot with Anibal Moreno. He topped the manager’s wishlist after a post-season meeting with Stefano Di Carlo.

He will travel to Buenos Aires next week for a medical and to sign, then report for the start of pre-season on 20 June at Ezeiza before flying to Alicante for a training camp.

The Uruguayan has 337 senior appearances since his debut with Defensor Sporting, then Bordeaux and Getafe, with 23 goals and 17 assists.

Elsewhere, River are pursuing Gio Simeone of Torino and Angel Correa of Tigres de Monterrey. Both players have given approval, but negotiations with their clubs are complicated, with price tags around 15 million dollars, and River intend to argue for roughly half.
