According to Globo.com, Memphis Depay told members of Gaviões da Fiel that he wants to extend his Corinthians contract and is prepared to revisit his salary to stay. His current deal runs until 20 June.
Memphis requested the meeting, which took place on Tuesday night at the Rosewood hotel in São Paulo, where the Dutch forward has been living.
He indicated no concrete decision has been taken over his future, remained open to talks, and asked for a respectful, transparent approach from the club. In a new agreement he would seek more scope to support marketing projects that could raise extra revenue for Corinthians.
The board are in discussions with companies to find partners willing to fund his wages in full. From July, the club do not have the budget to pay him and will require external backing. Memphis’s representatives are engaged but doubt a deal with zero club contribution.
Sidelined since 22 March with a right thigh muscle injury, he will not return this week and has missed the last 12 matches. He addressed the issue at the meeting, saying internal errors had delayed his recovery, which has now been corrected, and he is in the final stage of rehabilitation.
