The Mexican Football Federation announced the departure of fitness coach Pol Llorente, removing a key hurdle to Javier Aguirre’s move to Valencia. The club have now resolved the outstanding details from their preliminary agreement reached on Friday night.

Llorente’s release was a condition set by Aguirre during talks over the job. Lorente had been due to join new Mexico head coach Rafael Márquez’s staff, but will instead link up with Aguirre at Mestalla, having worked together at Mallorca.

The second outstanding issue concerned the trigger for an automatic extra year. Avoiding relegation does not activate it. The deal extends by one year only if he qualifies the team for the Europa League, otherwise it ends on 30 June 2027.

If that target is missed, sporting director Braulio Vázquez will have scope to appoint a different-profile coach for a longer-term project at the Nou Mestalla.

Aguirre is due to arrive in València early in the week to be presented and to take over from Óscar Sánchez. With contracts to be signed in the coming hours, Valencia are poised to make the appointment official. For the September and October FIFA window, Mexico face Colombia, Perú, United States and Chile, with physical preparation handled by in-house specialists.
