Valencia outline one-year offer for Javier Aguirre with top five clause | OneFootball

Valencia will appoint Javier Aguirre if he accepts a contract running only until 30 June. According to AS, discussions are moving forward, although negotiations remain open and financial terms have not yet been set.

The club are clear on two fronts, he meets several requirements Braulio Vázquez has set to replace Carlos Corberán, and the contract length will be limited to this season.

Valencia believe Aguirre can extract more from the squad and compete enough to pull clear of the relegation zone, yet see no need to commit beyond this season.

Braulio has set out those terms to Aguirre, who had been considering a family holiday in the United States. The proposal is a one-year deal, with an automatic extension only if Valencia finish in the top five, that is, Champions places.

Aguirre initially sought a two-year contract but has not rejected a single-season agreement. He is pushing for performance clauses that are more attainable.

At 67, the chance to lead a historic club and to return to Spain appeals to him. His family previously lived in Pamplona, Madrid, Zaragoza and Mallorca. He is broadly convinced by the squad, though he would seek January tweaks, chiefly at centre-back.

Braulio and Aguirre’s representatives will revisit the deal on Monday. Until then Valencia are focused on Real Sociedad under Óscar Sánchez. His work has impressed and he is being considered for a future return to the first team, even if Aguirre were to change his mind.
