This has been reported by the Northern Echo, who detail how quickly Boro are moving to replace what should be the outgoing Whittaker.

In an unforeseen turn of events, TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook reported that MLS outfit Colorado Rapids were in advanced talks to sign Whittaker, leaving Middlesbrough a matter of hours to source a replacement.

However, with the club believed to be receiving a healthy profit from what they paid Plymouth Argyle back in January 2025, the Teesside outfit can afford to be ambitious with a new recruit, and Cozier-Duberry is high up on their shortlist.

As per a report by the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough are targeting a move for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amario Cozier-Duberry on loan to replace Morgan Whittaker, should he complete a move to Colorado Rapids.

While Brighton were willing to move Cozier-Duberry on permanently earlier on in the window, their position has since changed.

The Premier League outfit are now understood to be offering the attacker a new contract and then sanctioning a loan exit away to a Championship club, with Middlesbrough seemingly a likely destination.

The 21-year-old was a livewire in League One with Bolton Wanderers last campaign as his eight goals and 12 assists went on to help secure promotion back to the second tier via the play-offs, and they’ll be big expectations on him to produce similar numbers in the Championship.

Amario Cozier-Duberry has been a player in demand throughout this summer transfer window, and it’s no surprise he could be moving to a Premier League aspiring team for the next challenge of his young career.

While he isn’t quite ready to play in the top-flight, a loan move to the Championship makes perfect sense, with Boro an ideal place to go given he’s tasked with filling the big boots left by Morgan Whittaker’s exit and should get plenty of game time.

Full of confidence following last season’s exploits in League One, the 21-year-old has all the attributes to be a dangerous player at this level and give opposition defenders headaches, while his quality will be fundamental to Middlesbrough sustaining a promotion push to the top-flight.

There’s no doubt Middlesbrough will miss the end product of Whittaker given only two more players had more goal involvements than him last campaign, but Cozier-Duberry is a standout replacement, with the promising youngster aiming to shine bright on the Championship stage.
