Mikel Goti is on the verge of a season-long loan to Real Oviedo, with the deal expected to be finalised on Tuesday, deadline day. According to Diario Vasco, he had intended to stay at Real despite not fitting into Matarazzo's plans, but has chosen to leave in search of minutes.
Relegated to the Liga Hypermotion this season, Oviedo had pursued the left-footer for weeks and are seen as promotion contenders. The Asturian club also signed Carlos Fernández on a free this summer to end his Real spell, and Goti did not train on Tuesday.
He heads out again after several months on loan at Córdoba last season. He started brightly at El Arcángel before coach Iván Ania admitted he had not managed to bring out all his potential, and his minutes fell. Goti is contracted to Real until 30 June 2028.
With Oyarzabal set to play more centrally this season alongside Óskarsson, competition in attacking midfield is heavy. Besides the captain there are Sucic, Soler has operated there at times, and even Zakharyan, so Goti judged opportunities in Donostia would be scarce.
Despite limited chances he impressed for the txuri-urdin, helping Sanse win promotion under Sergio Francisco. A poor run pushed the coach towards senior options, and Goti has seven official Real appearances with three goals, the same as Zakharyan. He will now try to convert that output into regular minutes at Oviedo.
