Monza captain Matteo Pessina has undergone delicate surgery on a serious knee injury, with suggestions he could be out for at least four months.
The midfielder had sustained the injury during pre-season training and the messages coming out from coach Ivan Juric immediately pointed to a major setback.

A statement was released this afternoon confirming that Pessina went under the knife to resolve the dislocation of the patellar tendon in his left knee, meaning a dislocated kneecap.
The surgery was performed at the J|Medical centre in Turin, which is in the Juventus training complex at Continassa.

He will begin the rehabilitation process with Monza, but the initial reports suggest that he could be out of action for at least four months.
It is a heavy blow for the 29-year-old Italy international, who returned to his hometown club Monza in 2022 and then helped them secure promotion back to Serie A.
He scored five goals with one assist in 33 Serie B appearances last term, and also participated in the promotion play-offs.
