Morgan Gibbs-White has received a late England call-up after Cole Palmer withdrew through injury, reversing his omission from last week’s announcement.

According to Nottingham Post, the Nottingham Forest playmaker had initially been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 27-man squad, a call that sparked debate given his form this year.

He had been on Tuchel’s long list for the upcoming fixtures but did not make the final cut, and he also missed the World Cup squad this summer.

Tuchel argued it made little sense to select several number 10s, while acknowledging Gibbs-White’s strong finish and influence in Forest avoiding relegation. He maintained that nomination is different to performing for England and challenged Palmer to justify his place.

Earlier this month, Gibbs-White created a game-high seven chances in Forest’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa, setting up Igor Jesus’s winner with a deft flick. In doing so he became the first Forest player since their Premier League return to record seven-plus chances and an assist in one game.

England will meet Spain, Croatia and Czech Republic in the Nations League during a three-week domestic pause, and Gibbs-White could now feature for the Three Lions.
