Newcastle United overcame Tottenham Hotspur to continue their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign yesterday.
The Magpies took the lead through Anthony Elanga before Yoane Wissa added a second.
Elanga has finally found his groove after struggling last season following his arrival at Newcastle.
Wissa has also shaken off the injuries and looks like a brand new signing .
Newcastle right-back Amar Dedic was also a revelation. The Bosnian joined the club this summer and has already delivered three assists in three appearances across all competitions.
The 24-year-old Newcastle defender was in inspired form against Spurs, providing the assist for Elanga’s goal while helping to keep the clean sheet.
He won six our of eight duels, registered two key passes and completed his two attempted crosses. He made four clearances and blocked one shot.
Dedic was terrific on both sides of the ball and is an upgrade on Valentino Livramento, who struggles in the final third.
He is quickly looking like a steal for the £29.5 million Newcastle paid to bring him to Tyneside. This was an ‘intelligent‘ performance.
If these early performances are anything to go by, he could end up being the bargain of the summer. He has wasted little time settling into the team.
His energy, physicality and quality in possession have given the Magpies another dimension down the right.
His ability to contribute in the final third has been particularly impressive. Dedic’s all-round performances have been just as encouraging.
Newcastle may have unearthed a genuine gem from the Red Bull pipeline.
The club have been linked with Luka Sucic, who also worked with manager Matthias Jaissle at RB Salzburg.
