Newcastle United have turned down a second formal offer worth £15 million from Nottingham Forest for versatile winger Jacob Murphy, according to The Daily Mail.

Forest’s initial £10m bid was turned down over the weekend, but manager Oliver Glasner remains keen to bolster his squad with Premier League experience.

As a result, the Tricky Trees returned to the table with an improved proposal, which Newcastle have rejected once again.

Despite Murphy now being in the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, Newcastle do not want to lose the 31-year-old so late in the window.

Murphy has gained extensive Premier League experience on Tyneside, proving a reliable contributor for nearly a decade.

While his contract situation presents a financial dilemma for Newcastle, the Magpies appear unwilling to sanction his exit.

Letting go of a trusted, versatile player late in the window and without an immediate replacement would leave Newcastle short on wing-back cover, especially after Kieran Trippier’s departure and with Tino Livramento still recovering from injury.

With the transfer deadline approaching, talks between the two clubs remain at an impasse following Newcastle’s firm rejection.
