Newcastle United are showing interest in Benfica right-back Amar Dedic as they look to strengthen their full-back options ahead of the new Premier League campaign, according to transfer reporter Sam Alex.

The 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international ‘with real potential’ is admired at St James’ Park, with Newcastle assessing options across both defensive flanks following Kieran Trippier’s departure and ongoing injury concerns over Tino Livramento.

A key factor behind Newcastle’s interest is Dedic’s existing relationship with new head coach Matthias Jaissle, having previously worked together at FC Liefering and RB Salzburg.

While naturally a right-back, his technical ability with both feet allows him to operate as an inverted left-back when required.

His capacity to tuck inside and build play centrally or overlap down the wing offers the versatility Jaissle demands from his wide defenders.

Since joining Portuguese giants Benfica in July 2025, Dedic has quickly established himself as a mainstay at Estadio da Luz.

For Newcastle, signing a defender who already understands Jaissle’s tactical principles eliminates the usual adjustment period required for foreign signings in the Premier League.

The Magpies have the financial resources to present an attractive offer to Benfica, whose board could be tempted to sell if the price is right.
