Captain Valentin Rongier pulled the strings with two assists as Rennes swept aside Nice 4-0, while Hicham Boudaoui never influenced the contest.
L'Équipe reports that Sebastian Szymanski drove play forward despite one loose touch, and he was withdrawn at half-time for Djaoui Cissé. Rongier set up Estéban Lepaul for the opener and later created the fourth.
At 31 minutes Juma Bah’s slack back-pass to Al-Tamari could have been costly. At 34 minutes Melvin Bard committed two errors, one conceding a penalty. He was also caught early in the move for the second goal, Szymanski’s shot taking a touch off Bah, and he failed to track Szymanski after stopping his run.
Anthony Rouault looked unbreachable, cutting out a dangerous Tom Louchet cross for Sofiane Diop on 41 minutes. Brice Samba denied Mohamed-Ali Cho with his face on 44 minutes, although his kicking was imprecise.
On 45+4 Boudaoui squandered a counter with a misjudged through ball that drew whistles at the Allianz Riviera. He was taken off at the break by Claude Puel, replaced by Kaïl Boudache.
Sofiane Diop began up front, an unusual role, and struggled, then moved wide without much more success. Dropping deeper after the interval changed little, and he made way for Tiago Gouveia on 70 minutes.
Samba saved from Antoine Mendy on 90 minutes, and Rouault stepped in ahead of Kevin Carlos at 90+4.
