Nottingham Forest have confirmed the club-record signing of Liam Delap from Chelsea.
As reported by The Athletic, Forest will pay at least £45m (€52m) for the striker, with the package worth up to £50m including add-ons.
It is the second time this window Forest have broken their record, after centre-back Ousmane Diomande arrived from Sporting CP for €40m.
Delap completed a medical on Wednesday and signed a five-year deal. He is Oliver Glasner’s fifth summer signing after Diomande, Gustavo Sa, Xaver Schlager and Steven Benda.
Delap said he cannot wait to start, praised Forest’s history and, after talks with Glasner, believes he can develop and hopes to bring goals. He also highlighted The City Ground atmosphere and said the aim is to challenge at the top of the Premier League.
He was not in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday and had been training separately from Xabi Alonso’s squad, with his No nine shirt given to Joao Pedro.
The 23-year-old joined Chelsea last year for €40m after scoring 12 Premier League goals for Ipswich, but injuries disrupted his season and he scored once in the league.
Across 47 appearances he scored three times and recorded five assists. His exit comes as Chelsea seek to ease a crowded striker group behind first-choice Joao Pedro, with Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu also candidates to leave.
