Nottingham Forest have emerged as competitors for fellow Premier League outfit Crystal Palace in the race to sign Auxerre’s young midfielder Kevin Danois.

Crystal Palace, last season’s Conference League winners, have refrained from spending heavily in the summer transfer window, with their most expensive signing being that of Anan Khalaili, who joined from Union SG for a fee in the region of £21m.

With deadline day fast approaching, the board have now increased their efforts and multiple deals are being worked on to equip new manager Pierre Sage with the players he needs.

Palace are currently pressing hard for Lecce’s 21-year-old defender Tiago Gabriel and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is expected to join.

The name of Paris FC defender Moustapha Mbow has also been doing the rounds, but Sevilla have made him a priority.

Midfield is yet another area of concern and Auxerre’s 22-year-old midfielder has emerged as a target for the Eagles.

However, according to French sports daily L’Equipe, a new team from the Premier League have now entered the race, making things complicated for Palace.

Nottingham Forest have a big void to fill following the departure of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City and while Xaver Schlager has been roped in, they are keen on adding more midfielders.

Danois missed just one of Auxerre’s 34 Ligue 1 games last season, scoring three goals and is a player at the centre of attention for Oliver Glasner’s Nottingham Forest.

While Auxerre are not keen on parting ways with the player this summer, a fee exceeding the €30m mark could make them reconsider their stance.

Auxerre know, with times tough for French football when it comes to broadcast income, that €30m could be a big sum.

The French side could be keen for a bidding war between the two Premier League sides as it could help them to bring in top dollar for Danois.

At present though, Auxerre have not received an offer for the 22-year-old, who has been named the club’s captain for the season.
