Boos rang out at Azteca Stadium when Oasis favourite "Don't Look Back in Anger", closely associated with the Three Lions during this tournament, was played before the Mexico v England World Cup last-16 tie, with kick-off delayed.

According to L'Équipe, the start was put back by one hour, from two to three in France.

Since the tournament began, each England win has been followed by "Wonderwall", creating a shared moment between players and supporters and reaffirming Oasis's long ties with the Three Lions.

After the Oasis track, other English pop staples such as Blur's "Song 2" and Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" were also aired, prompting further disapproval from much of the crowd.

For England's travelling support, the Azteca already feels like hostile territory.
