Bayer Leverkusen have signed Ivory Coast international full-back Guéla Doué (23) from BlueCo-owned Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg Alsace, both clubs have announced. Désiré Doué’s older brother has put pen to paper over a five-year deal with Carlos Martinez Novell’s Bundesliga outfit. Bayer Leverkusen were in the market for a right-back given they were short of options in this area, with only the 35-year-old Lucas Vazquez as the sole available option. Doué will wear the No. 20 jersey for Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayer will reportedly pay Strasbourg a transfer fee worth €30m, with the total package potentially rising to €37,5m through performance-related bonuses. Bayer Leverkusen have splashed the cash on Ligue 1 players this summer, including a combined €52m on Afonso Moreira and Facundo Medina.
Doué is the latest key Strasbourg player to leave La Meinau this summer, following in the footsteps of Valentin Barco, Diego Moreira and Abdoul Ouattara. The right-back initially joined Strasbourg from Ligue 1 rivals Rennes in a €6m deal.
