Hugo Siquet has joined Cercle Brugge on loan for the remainder of the season, Freiburg confirmed on Saturday. The left-back left the training camp on Thursday evening to return to his homeland.
Freiburg’s sporting director Klemens Hartenbach spoke on this decision: “Hugo needs regular game time at this point in his career, which we couldn’t guarantee him for the time being, given how intense the fight for places in the team is, as a result, the loan move, back to his homeland in Belgium, makes sense and comes at the right time.”
Siquet has only been able to play four times for Freiburg since his move from Standard Liege for €4.5m in January of last year and has been unable to break the hold Christian Günter, who has featured in all of SCF’s Bundesliga games this season, at left-back.
Kevin Schade also both leaving the Black Forest.
Freiburg currently sit second in the Bundesliga, four points behind Bayern Munich in first. They also find themselves in the Round of 16 of the Europa League. Freiburg restart their year against Wolfsburg on the 21st January.
