Olympique Lyonnais have announced the arrival of Dutch international Hans Hateboer (31), who joins the club on loan from Stade Rennais until the end of the season as a joker signing.Fourth in Ligue 1 after seven rounds, Lyon have impressed defensively this season, conceding just five goals. However, with the Africa Cup of Nations approaching, Paulo Fonseca is set to lose both Moussa Niakhaté and Clinton Mata — prompting the club to seek experienced cover.

A product of FC Groningen, Hateboer spent seven seasons at Atalanta (2017–2024), making 225 appearances and scoring 12 goals under Gian Piero Gasperini. The versatile defender – capable of playing both as a right-back and in a central role – was part of the Europa League-winning squad in 2024.Capped 13 times by the Netherlands, Hateboer joined Rennes in the summer of 2024, featuring 29 times in all competitions.
