Barcelona can breathe a sigh of relief as Dani Olmo and Pau Victor are cleared to continue playing until the end of the season.

Indeed, the Administrative Court has rejected the emergency injunction requested by La Liga, which aimed to temporarily suspend the decision by Spain’s Higher Sports Council (CSD) to grant both players a licence until the conclusion of their respective contracts.

Last week, the CSD had already ruled that the joint committee between LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) did not have the authority to deny the registrations of Olmo and Victor.

“It has been clearly and undeniably established throughout the process, after reviewing the parties’ arguments, that the Monitoring Committee lacked jurisdiction to decide on the prior approval and licence requested by FC Barcelona,” stated the CSD.

La Liga, led by president Javier Tebas, strongly disagreed and took the matter to civil court, arguing:

“We believe the CSD’s decision gravely violates the regulatory framework regarding economic control and the processing of sports licences, undermines the general interest of the competition, and compromises its integrity by breaching the principle of equality between clubs.”

Despite La Liga president Tebas pulling out all the stops and taking the matter to civil court, the ruling has gone against their interests as it has denied the emergency appeal.

Now, Barcelona, Olmo, Victor, and the CSD will all have the opportunity to present their case following La Liga’s legal complaint. The next step will be for the court to decide on the standard injunction.

All signs suggest that the players will retain their licences and that the dispute will not be resolved until a full legal ruling is made – a process expected to take several months.
