Schalke 04 have today confirmed the signing of Mainz 05 midfielder Danny Latza on a contract until 2023. The 31-year-old will join the club on a free transfer at the of the season.
“It makes me unbelievably proud to be able to run out for Schalke again. I learned to play football here and was able to play my first three Bundesliga matches. Starting this summer, my concern will be helping the club to get back to greater success,” said Latza.
“For me, Schalke has always been a place where the fans appreciate players with passion and fighting spirit. My aim is to show exactly that.”
Latza joined Schalke’s youth academy at eight and would make his Bundesliga debut in 2009. The German joined Darmstadt 98 in 2011 before joining VfL Bochum two years late and would join current club Mainz in 2015.
“Danny has committed to us early on, even knowing that playing in the Bundesliga 2 is currently the most likely scenario for next season. That underlines his connection with Schalke,” added current head of sport Peter Knäbel.”
